Got my hands
on a 67-72 internal hub and have in mind to replace the 36-66
star hub at my rear wheel. My rear brake drum is a 63-66. Are
the bearings mounted in the 67-72 rear brake drum ? Can the 63-66
drum be modified to fit 67-72 hub?
Somebody who have a sketch/drawing ?

The 67-72 drum does have the sealed bearing mounted in the drum. This is the
set up I have and I'm going strictly from memory because I do not have a diagram
handy. There are three sealed bearings in the hub/drum assembly.
I do not know what the differences are between the 63-66 and the 67-72 drum,
but the brake assembly is the same from 63-72. So the brake drum "shell" width
is the same....(the backing plate/shoes/wheel cylinder is also the same for 63-72).
I believe all that you will need is a 67-72 rear axle kit with the proper spacers
and sleeves....unless there are significant differences in the dimensions of
the width of the inner part of the two drums.
I wish I could be more help with exact dimensions so we could determine the differences,
but YES the sealed bearings are mounted in the 67-72 drum.

The later brake drum is wider as are the shoes. I have them on my '69 shovel,
good drum brakes. The only bitch I have with them is the cost of replacement
bearing sets.
