Rebuild the drumbrake instead of putting something as ugly as a disc on your bike!!

I'll take an ugly disc over a rebuilt drum for a daily rider. I would rather have a brake that works than have to impress someone with what "correct" for the model and year. Give FabKevin a call or send him an e-mail.

I share CknDnr's opinion, and as long as the car-drivers don't see us we will have to drive for them as well.... and must stop the bike in time. I have -73 forks with disc on my bobber... don't know if you just can change just the left-lowerpart or if you must change both complete legs.

I agree, having 'better stoppers' in today's crazy traffic
is a Big plus......Too many wack-o's in cages.

Course, that's what riding is about. "Doing your thing, your way.."

Does anyone know if there is a way to mount a disc to the stock hub?Re: disc brake on a pan??

I am not sure if I am right, but in 1972,when they went to the first disc front end, they still used the 1967 to 1972 wheel hub and used a flange to mount the disc to the hub.I cant see any reason why this flange cant be used on a star hub.

It can be done, but a big project. This is a kit Performance Machine made in the 70's, bearing holder/spacer,new axle, disc carrier drilled to match hub, etc. I will be using the spare kit to mount a second disc on the right side. If you want the specs on these parts, maybe a machine shop could do a set for you. PM now suggests using a later flange hub for this.

hello,
do you have these parts still????
boy........ if I could my hands on these and get some numbers from those 2 parts, it would be disk brakes all around for everyone.

Oh, I sure do. The kit I have spare was the first I got from PM, it was used when they were selling a single piston Hurst Airhart caliper, so it mounted the disc close to the spokes. When they started producing the 162x2 caliper, I got the bearing holder on there now, much wider to clear the wider caliper. I will be making a spacer (from the 3.75" piece of aluminum you see in the picture) to use the narrow holder to mount a disc in the right side. You use to flip the hub around, and press the cup(pic in last post) into the race on the drum side(now the right), which would then fit a #6203 bearing, same bearing as on the disc adapter side. You do need a 17mm axle, since the bearings are metric.
If you are interested in trying to reproduce these, I think at least a few people might like them as a starting point. I've mentioned it a couple times over on HBSC tech board, but no one seemed interested in doing it. Email if you are, at rwfishman@aol.com
