| Description: Which badge is correct | ||

| I am in the
process of tearing down my 59 Panhead for work and am going to
get it back to original color skyline blue/birch white. My question
is, I have 2 sets of original badges; one set appears to have
been stripped and buffed and are plain chrome, and the other
set has remnants of red around the arrow, but the letters are
black. I have seen them in many photos as having red everywhere,
including the lettering. Which is correct? Did it matter what
the overall bike color was, or was there only one color scheme
for the year? And does anyone have a color code or insight into the red to be used? Thanks for any help you can lend. Joel Post by Panhead on Jan 18, 2006, 8:10pm For the 1959 colors:http://www.hydra-glide.com/info/1959.php Post by jdc222 on Jan 18, 2006, 8:16pm thanks for that page of info...still not sure from that whether the letters were black or red (have seen them both way), although it appears clear that the ball around the arrow was red. Any suggestions as to the color of that red though? Was it the same as the tin paint? Thanks for the quick response. Best regards, Joel Post by Panhead on Jan 18, 2006, 8:39pm According to Greg Field the letters and background were both red, but I have no paintnumber. Post by daves59pan on Sept 24, 2006, 5:15pm :i also have a 59 pan (i purchased it from my twin brothers estate/he owned this bike for 30 years)ok how do you identify the 59 tank badges /from being original or re-pop Post by VPHD on Sept 26, 2006, 7:56pm The harley badges have the word "ACME" on the backside, in raised lettering. They also have a harley part number which I can't remember, but it ends in -59. They're also heavier. VPH-D Post by daves59pan on Sept 27, 2006, 1:27am THANKS VPHD for telling me how to identify 59/60 tank badges THANKS AGAIN Post by billy on Sept 27, 2006, 5:33am HD part # 61775-59T Set name plates '59-'60 Post by VPHD on Sept 29, 2006, 4:07pm The -59T badges are not original, but are the Eagle Iron variety. I think the Eagle Iron line of parts came out in 95, and that's where H-D started offering their own line of re-pop parts. VPH-D Post by billy on Sept 30, 2006, 5:22am Thanks VPHD- I found them in my nos parts book.....(ooops!!) :-[
