Re: Valve caps

Standard caps were Schrade brass or nickle plated with a core remover tip. No plastic. The plastic H-D caps were an accessory and never fitted stock. They appeared in the late '40s accessory catalogs with a -47 number in red, ivory, and amber. They are hex sided.

Re: 1949 Panhead

Nothing remotely resembling a Panhead dates to '37. Without pictures it is hard to say what you may be referring to.

Please go to the new member section and do a bit of an intro.

Re: Deviating bezel Cycleray headlight

All the early bezels and buckets that were chrome plated were stamped brass. That was likely a leftover pre-war bezel never plated and pressed into use for the war by Guide. It could have been changed on the bucket at any time so isn't necessarily in the same time frame as the bucket. They were also...

Re: 1965 ServiCar location for Hydraulic Brake Tee

The tee is on the rear differential bolted to the hole in the web next to the speedo drive. It sits on top of the web with the hole for the pressure switch pointing away from the speedo drive.

Re: Swapping M88 for M51 venturi

M51 carbs are rare, expensive, and in high demand. Converting an M88 is far cheaper with the same end result! Linkert made tens of thousands of M88s for the military, during those years they made practically no M51s.

Re: Swapping M88 for M51 venturi

Easy to do but one thing to remember. The m** has a vented venturi, the M51 has a vented body. So either the vent notch needs to be added to the venturi, or the body must be drilled like an M51. When running an adjustable high speed needle plug the hole where the fixed jet was.

Re: ACF cylinders

If you do a search on ACF you will see that they are not communicating with many customers struggling to get their parts returned, work completed, etc. Not a good thing. Too bad as they were building a good rep and it is all down the tubes right now.
Be careful out there!

Re: Sportster Genny

Everything from '58 up uses the same mounting bolts, so unbolt your 6V and bolt the 12V on. As stated, the Sportster uses a one tooth different gear. It interchanges or you can swap the gear from your 6 volt. All 2 brush generators have the same spline for the gear. As stated, remove the fender wash...

Re: 1949 Harley WL - Jiffy Stand, Spring

And put a half nut on the clip mount, it will allow the spring free travel and not drag across the nut, the nut should not extend past the threads.
