Re: ACF cylinders

First off, thank you for posting and helping someone else avoid their cylinders. Could you keep us updated on further problems and maybe post some pictures so we could identify them on the secondhand market? Fact is, they're out there now and poor quality deserves to be shunned, especially with many...

Re: barrel leak

I know little about this case, but it does appear to be 63-65 outside oiler but it does not seem to be drilled for the cross galley to feed the heads internally. There are holes in the lifter block bores. I will look again and probe the holes with wire, I'm curious now.

Re: barrel leak

This outside oiler does not appear to have the oil passage drilled, but it has no belly number (blown out & repaired less than perfect).

Re: Flathead 45 dies after 1 min running

How's the gas delivery? Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and let it run into a can for a minute. A partial blockage could let it fill the carb, then slowly run out. When it quits, working the throttle does what? Spit back thru the carb means the gas is going away. You say it runs a minute, time ...

Re: Duel crabs

Very cool idea .... I also had thoughts in that area, but with this motor the center stud can not turn in the case due the the Big Bore jugs (3-5/8") case bore cutting into the case stud .... To get around that, the mount and stud would need to be loaded as one piece and then installed onto the cas...

Re: 51 FL Motor Build

Very nicely done and should perform I would guess double the old 61 inch motors. Better breathing, more cubes and reinforced lower end will go a long way to a fast reliable motor. Spent some dough tho'.
Where's all the take off stuff going?

Re: Magneto only/No Lights

So where does the extra juice go when the motor is revved? If the voltage regulator points open, there is no battery or capacitor to keep the lights ON. If the reg. points stay closed, the over voltage will make the lights burn brighter, for a little while and then cook the elements. If they vibrate...

Re: Magneto only/No Lights

So with no battery and no capacitor, what keeps the voltage from overjucing when the motor gets revved? Are the points in the regulator vibrating to reduce voltage?

I'm trying to understand, cause it isn't the way I thought, maybe 6 volt is more forgiving.

Re: 1965 Clutch/Mousetrap Adjustment

Roodog is correct, start with the springs set first. I however take some issue with the manual because of: old bikes with possibly replaced, possibly aftermarket, possibly bent clutch release arms, possibly varied square broaching in the kicker end. Plus it's difficult to measure under there. So, wh...

Re: Magneto only/No Lights

I may be way off, I don't know 32E systems, but with no battery and no capacitor it doesn't seem you have voltage to start the system. If you were to try and "Flash" the regulator there wouldn't be any voltage to flash. I had friends that ran capacitor/no battery on their Sportsters, miss a shift an...

Re: Spin on oil filter leaking bad

With the general poor quality of machined parts nowadays, make sure the filter thread is machined deep enough or thru to allow the gasket to compress, try taking off the gasket and see if the body will meet, metal to metal.

My two cents

Not that I noticed, a guy with a beautiful '49 green pan told me about them, so I tried them, what's to lose? Might make a mess with tubeless tires but in a tube?....

With an open primary you're halfway there, loosen the trans and remove the belt, take apart the round ratchet, look at the manual, borrow a clutch hub puller if needed, read the knowledge base. Post pictures.

but its not likely anybody will do as careful work as I will , Profound statement! On a positive note, have you guys tried the balancing beads? A kit from Amazon costs about $15 with 1oz. For front, 2 oz. for rear, bottle, hose, special valve cores. All included. Just pour them in the valve hole and...
