Re: 1965 five gallon left tank bottom view

Sorry I cannot 'shine' on the discussion, Rico! But I have been bitched off of participating on the forum by a hostile "moderator". (Remember when a moderator put out flames, instead of fanning them?) But yes, the 5 gallon "Turnpike" tanks for "65" still had the 'through the tank" petcocks, but the ...

You Folks have too much time on your hands!

Twenty bucks at the farm supply, and a little abuse with a four inch grinder:

All of the sheet steel wrenches I've had just splayed out their 'jaws' when attempting to loosen really tight nuts.

Re: 4:1 oil pump drive gear

PanPal! Whew! I feared it happened while going down the road. Thanks for relating something I can relate to... And yes, we must assume that the units will bleed down faster when hot, as after all, bleeding down is as important as pumping up. We might suppose also, that the mileage on any particular ...

Kev!

Some booths were under 4+" of water, but it was good to see old friends and make new ones anyway.

Re: converting to 12 volts

My question, Andy,... ...is shouldn't we be able to figure the time limit for running at discharge? If the machine drew four amps, and the battery was perfect with a 4 amp/hr capacity, shouldn't that give us an hour to get home if the idiot light came on? We need to add up the bulbs and ignition dra...

Re: converting to 12 volts

Andy! So for a rough guestimate: If 60mph is 60 seconds per mile, 80 is a third quicker, or about 40 seconds per mile. Thirty-five miles times forty seconds is only about twenty-three minutes of riding on the battery. Shouldn't we be able to calculate how far one could go at 'discharge', if we knew ...

Andy!

So how far do you go at 80 mph?

Looking forward to my relays, because there's nothing wrong with riding like its 1952.

Re: closing intake valves

Keith!

I just turn on the air and kick her through, until I hear them close and the regulator bumps up.

Even with a burnt valve, or an Indian (it seems like they never are both fully closed), the regulator maintains the differential. Just like leaks around a testplate.

.., but they do tend to bleed down at times. arnulfo Arnulfo! What happens when they bleed down? I mean, how do you know? (its never happened to me except when they are supposed to.. or maybe that time an oil bottle cap mysteriously snuck into my oil tank and covered the feed. If I had been running...

Re: converting to 12 volts

Food for thought, Folks:

There were no Interstate highways until after '56: You had to slow down for every little town.
By '58, all production machines got the two-brush system that police fleets had enjoyed for a decade.

Coincidence?

Dcmc!

Yours are real familiar (got some in a box somewhere...), but they do not match my '49 "western" buckles and bands.
Your "piping" is quite nice, in that it is not really wavy.

Re: Saddle bags

Dcmc! I honestly do not know the maker, but I am certain that you should never apply Neats'foot oil to them, as it destroyed my pair quickly, turning the lids to stone: ROOFBIKE.jpg ROOFSNO.jpg I suspect your buckles and strap bands have been replaced. The 'rose' pattern for OEM productions changed ...
