'Ello, I've been lookin for info on a date code for the 1965 Electra Glide frame. I know the 58 code is for the Duo Glide 1958-1964 and that the '65 has the sq.oil tank. DiD Harley change the code to read 65 for the glide ? I almost hope not , mine says 58. Have a PIC...

Alex, I'm not sure whether you're talking about a date code or a casting number suffix. A date code on a BT four-speed swingarm frame is usually stamped on the top engine mount and normally consists of a letter and a number, for example, A8 could indicate a frame was made in January of 58, 68 or 78, depending on the type of frame. But you mentioned 58 and 65 and that yours has 58 so I'm wondering if you mean a casting number suffix, for example, 47653-58; 47651-58; 47654 65. Can you please explain further. And can you post some photos of the frame and/or the markings you mean. Eric

Eric, thanks. I suppose I mean a casting # located at the bottom rear of the frame . the cast member that the swingarm axle is lined through. This is the best photo I have right now, I need a new camera or i shure would. Thanks. Mutha tells all was some funny S41T!

Casting number 47653-58 first appeared on the lower left side on 58 models and the latest example I have of it is on a late-68 model frame owned by a member of another forum. It changed to 47654 65 at some unknown point, but apparently not in 1965. The number may have changed about 1970 because that's when there were changes to the casting itself. And later on it changed again, becoming 47654-73, probably in mid-73.

Casting number 47651-58 first appeared on the lower right-hand side on 58 models and it seems to have remained in use through early-73, but was changed to 47652-73 in mid-73.

But I'm not sure from your photo what frame style you have. Is the top of your frame straight like the one at below left? Or does the casting step down like the one at below right?

On the upper castings, 47645-58 was used for 58-64 models and then it was changed to 47645-65 beginning with 65 models.

Do you know what date code is stamped on your top engine mount? That will give you the month and year of frame manufacture.

Also check the left side of the steering head for additional original component identifying numbers, aka anti-theft numbers, which may consist of one letter followed by three or four numbers. They were introduced on 1962 models and the letter indicates model year. As an example of where to look, the photo below shows B5 as the first two of five characters on a 63 model. Eric
