58FL Luggage rack

#1

Post by George Greer » Wed Aug 07, 2019 7:08 am

Just throwing this out there since I am not able to find a decent one that is not rusted out or just beat to hell here in Germany (just started looking).

But anyone have a decent luggage rack that I could use on my 58FL "retirement toy"?

I have seen some repo ones but not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks.

George

George...
I have a three rail rack that bolts to your fender struts, removable when not needed, no paint damage to your rear fender....
Looks like this one.....Image

Funny that the catalog picture for that rack shows it mounted backwards. The factory 3 bar rack for '58 is slightly different than the later type. The one shown is the later type as used with tour packs and is designed to sit further back (side rails configured differently) to give clearance between the seat and tour pack. These are all the 3 rail racks. Top left is a Duo-Glide type, Top right a later Electra-Glide type, bottom left is the '52-'57 rigid type, and the bottom right is K-Model and Sportster.

Yep it is "backwards", but that is the beauty of that rack. As it is pictured the load is further forward, and may also serve as a back rest too when packed down for a road trip.... The nice thing about a Harley is the versatility, one does not have to follow the "rules", I surely have not.... LOL...

Hi George,
I have two of the duo-glide racks, and would part with one but I am in Socal. Both could use chrome, However sometimes you can find one for a softail with good chrome, for next to nothing and I think the rails and spacers are the same. Would want $25. plus shipping.
I could try some fine steel wool on one if you wanted.
Bob
