Tank decals or emblems?

#1

Post by timh975 » Tue Apr 02, 2019 3:48 am

OK guys, I am in kind of a pickle and need your opinion. I’m still working on my dad‘s ‘52, I had to take the tanks off and send them in to be cleaned and sealed inside. Unfortunately, the left tank wasn’t properly plugged and acetone leaked out and damaged the paint and decal. A $300 seal job just turned into a $1000 paint job. The decals my dad put on the tanks are no longer available, I can’t even find them (in this exact color) on the internet. I’m considering painting the tanks and fenders a black cherry color, but I’m stumped on whether to put decals back on it or go with the original emblems from 1952. What do you guys think?

Paint them, put whatever decals you like on them. Those are late tanks anyway so no reason to try and make them look like '52 tanks.

Thanks Rubone, if I was to go with the emblems for the 1952 time period, can you direct me to what I need, and where to find them? Thank you.

'52 uses emblems in Stainless Steel that are the name in script with a strip underlining it. They were used from '51-'53. They are available from most regular sources such as V-Twin or J&P.

Well I decided to have the emblems painted on instead. The guy did a hell of a job!
