Chopper time???

#1

Post by Pete808 » Fri Aug 17, 2018 8:17 pm

So I've been itching to build a chopper. Almost picked up a yellow shovelhead to chop but instead I bought the 47UL. Now I have decided to make my 47EL something else. Originally I was going to try and make it stock but after a year of buying expensive parts and getting almost nowhere I decided to redo it and not worry about correctness or even oem parts. I don't want to cut anything off, and I will keep all the stock parts aside, so this is not really a chopper as much as it is just a bolt up modification thing. Here is what I have done so far with stuff laying around in my garage. If anyone has invader wheels for sale please let me know.

I haven't seen a real peanut tank in 40 years. Wassell, I assume.

The tool box bracket on that frame is welded on backwards and upside down. It belongs on the inside of the frame ytubes, not the outside!!

I am not completely sure. I don't think it is a real Wassell, my friend gave it to me.

Thanks, I didn't want to cut anything off but since it is on wrong I think I will chop it off and have my friend weld it back the correct way.

Then your frame will be more stock looking, for when you go back to stock (after you get tired of riding that tiny seat! LOL!) Doc

added a couple more things. Some of the stuff like the grips and risers made of tape, lol are just on there until the parts come in. Had a 19 inch wheel in my garage so I threw it on to see what it would look like, I think I like it so I will figure something out along those lines with a star hub and a different tire. Need a bunch of little stuff and have to get a headlight that sits lower. Other then that spent most of my night last night riding around on the UL and getting comfortable with the shifting and all.

figured I would post an update on how the chopper is coming along since I like looking at pictures and I figured everyone else does too. Still have a long way to go, today I got a 21 inch wheel in the mail so I will see how that looks compared to the 19. Still needs a lot of stuff but it's coming along. I am not sure what to do with the primary, it has a belt drive and I have a primary cover but it has a piece cut out of the top. I think it is an oem Knucklehead primary (someone with more knowledge can chime in on that) so I don't want to cut it up more but it looks odd with the hole. I also don't want to run an open primary because I don't want to snag my leg on it. I am using different risers , but need to modify the top clamp which is not on the bike at the moment. I ended up just throwing random paint and paint thinner on the tank and it looks like a mess but I kind of like it since it matches the rear fender somewhat. Shop is a complete mess so disregard the crap laying around everywhere.

Bobber with a sissy bar. A far stretch from a chopper! Way too conservative. You need 16-18 over forks( minimum), rake, 21 with no front brake, ass wiper with a suicide, and lots more. Choppers are death, choppers are life...

I can't do the 16 over forks have to keep it conservative for the awesome unpaved, pothole filled roads of Hawaii, just don't like the look of anything with forks longer then 4 over or so. Most likely doing the 21 w/o the front brake and a "ass wiper" as you call it. Bobber, Chopper, whatever it is it's not oem and it's a work in progress.

Keeping it "conservative" isn't in the chopper nomenclature. Hawaii doesn't have enough roads to garnish a bad road name. There are more bad roads in any major US city than all the islands put together.

See below pic of my UL Pete,

A longer front end acts like a full suspension bike, I don't fee like i'm on a hardtail, 14" over front end on this.

Bike looks good all the same, good looking sissy!

Side view with the 21 inch wheel that came in yesterday. Got the wheel and tore for only $70, can't beat that.
