1963 DuoGlide Oil Tank

#1

Post by big-boss » Thu Apr 02, 2015 9:05 pm

Anybody have a picture showing how the tank, battery box bottom, etc all go together? I am putting together a 1963 FLH - basket case. Does the rear bracket the holds up the battery tray actually bolt into the holes in the swing arm pivot? There are already some allens in there.

Thanks again- great site you guys have.

You will need a bracket that bolts to the bosses on he frame. Bad picture but shoes the bracket well. The battery tray has 4 spacers to stand it off this bracket, and the bracket on the seat-post.
I will try to find a better picture

A manual will be a lot of help if you don't have one....

Thanks that is lots of help. I have that bracket. The two cad plated bolts are going into the tapped holes in the swing arm pivot. The PO has allen set screws already in the two holes- appearing to pinch-lock the swing arm pivot bolt. Is that right? It only leave 3 threads for the battery tray bolts.

I do not see the oil tray parts in the parts book or the manual. Was their an addenda?

Thanks again.

It's not supposed to pinch anything. The swingarm goes through the bosses in the frame, and threads to the boss on the left side of the frame. (See pic) there is a bent tab washer that locks into a hole with a finger in that threaded boss. The swingarm needs to swing... Don't pinch it frozen!

The Allen screws don't belong there at all. As stated, the swingarm bolt scres into the left frame lu, is adjusted for proper pre-load, and locked in place with the tab washer. The holes are only for the oil tank mounting. The parts appear in the parts book. What year are you looking at? The manuals drop earlier parts pictures as they get further away from the year of the bike.

Thanks, The allens will be out this am. The Service manual I am using goes from 1959-1969 Part no. 99482-69 sounds like I need to get one closer to the 1963. That makes since.

Thanks again. This was a stalled project on the way back together in 1995 +/-. Has good bones and seems to all be there.
