Handlebar grip logo alignment

#1

Post by Gotnoclass » Fri Oct 17, 2014 2:42 am

Hello loved ones,
This is more so a cosmetic question.. On the waffle grips with the Harley logo, what was the factory alignment of the logo?
Throttle side and spark side?
Thanks!

RAN----Good Question!---I just looked at some polaroids from my 58flh when POPS purchased it NEW. & It looks to Me as long as there right-side up so you can read them.I think the OEM ones will Stay-put if installed correctly!--They tend to harden with age & will turn eventually.--Hope some of the JUDGES can shed More light on the subject for you!----RICHIE

Thanks Richie!
I'm thinking throttle side - up when throttle is closed, and up in full advanced at spark side???

I've never even thought of that and I don't think it is in Palmers.

I also admit to never having thought of this. Time will tell whether it is a step too far or genius....

On my very original '59--for the throttle grip--the Harley script faces straight up (12:00 when viewed from the grip hole vantage point). Further, the script is readable from the saddle (runs from left to right).

For the timer grip, the Harley script is at about 2:00 when viewed from the grip hole vantage point. However, as the grips are not "handed", the script reads backwards and up side down (runs right to left) when viewed from sitting on the saddle.

The 2:00 variation can be attributable merely due to the adjustment at the timer end of the cable. Maybe I'll tweak it to place the script at 12:00 if I run out of other more-serious stuff to tweak (or I'm really bored some day).

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind that the grips often slipped and moved in use...
