60 Owner's Manual?

Post by lowlife » Wed May 02, 2012 11:28 pm

I have a Factory Service Manual and Palmer's book.
Did they make a Factory Owner's Manual?
Sure would be nice to read about the gas tank shut-off valve, mechanical spark advance, fork lock and all the general operator information.
What year did Harley start to print Factory Owner's Manuals?

they didn't call them Owner's Manuals, the term the factory used is Rider's Hand Book, and they go WAYYYY back, I've got one for my '31 VL.

A long time ago the Rider's Handbooks were almost a mini-shop-manual (before WWII) and included almost everything you needed to maintain or repair the motorcycle. There were no shop manuals back then, just a collection of "Shop Dope" sheets that the dealer kept on a clipboard in the shop.

The factory issued a Rider's Handbook for every bike back then, including the early post-war years, I also have one for my 1949 Model S and it has all the information that you are looking for. And yes, there is one specific to the 1960 models, don't know where you can find one but you could do a google search and find out. Here's a picture of the cover of one.

Good luck!, let us know what you find

I believe I have the correct one in my collection for a 60. When I get home...in about 4 weeks...I'll scan and send it to you haven't found one.
