Taking burnt shoe marks off your pipes

I was asked by someone about getting the burnt shoe marks offa their pipes.
What is the best thing to remove this baked on problem ??

I've been using OOOO steel wool and Turtle Wax chrome polish for years, take your time, it works well and the extra fine steel wool won't scratch your chrome.

I use a hot wet towel over the marks to soften the crud, then use S100 bike cleaner with a little elbow grease.
Works every time.
