Mileage, oil consumption, chain, belt info

Took a 2 day 600 mile trip through the mountains this weekend from Wasilla to Homer Alaska. Bike ran well.
Speed was 55-65 as marked on the highway.

11mm BDL Belt drive worked great in the inclosed primary.

24 tooth tranny sprocket was good even in the mountains.
Only once at 65mph climbing a 5% grade at an altitude of 4000 ft did I run out of torque (I still had carb, and opening it more did nothing for speed.--I did try adjusting the high speed jet and there was no effect).

Worst mileage was 30 mpg. steady 65mph highway no stops.
Best was 33 mpg. 45-55mph mostly 45mph and some stop and go.

The day before I left,

--I adjusted the new rear chain that had a couple hundred miles on it and lubed it with some spray on on road chain lube.
By the time I got home, the chain stretched so much that it was bumping the brake rod!! I do not remember ever having so much trouble with chains.
This is a Tsubaki non O-ring.

--Changed from 10-40 dino oil to 15-50 Mobil 1 Full synthetic oil in the engine.
The oil light no longer stays on at idle when the engine is at operating temp.
I used/leaked 1.75 quarts of oil. Most of it came out of the rear lifter block hole(Now repaired)
It was bad enough that the rear down pipe was wet and burning the oil off of it. The tranny was wet with motor oil also.
How much oil does a 4000 mile motor generally use?

--Changed from 80-90 dino gear oil to 75-90 Full synthetic in the tranny.
No complaints at all with the change.
Shifts are much smoother. I rarely use the clutch once the machine is in motion.
It seems the tranny is a little more forgiving even if the engine rpm doesn't quite match the wheel speed when shifting without the clutch using the synthetic gear lube.

Sounds like you had a good shake-down cruise and a great trip. That thing just might make it to Florida next year.

While you were in Homer didja get a bumper sticker for the pan?

Yea--It was a good trip.
My son took his new kz650 Kawasaki-- Nice dirt bike that is highway capable.
We did not see the sun until we arrived in Homer, When we left Homer, the sun stayed there.
At least it did not rain. The temps were between 50 and 60 degrees.
Nice bumper sticker---
