There are differing (heated) opinions about whether all, or any, '49 shrouds (headlight sheetmetal) were stainless or not.

Apparently some of the black ones were mild steel. The black slider covers as well.

The stainless ones may not have been production until '50. Many were chromed to order by the dealers, making it even more confusing when researching contemporary literature..

One thing is for certain, neither year had the "HydraGlide" script across the top.

If you find two, let me know, 'cos I need one also!

And while we are on the topic of '49 parts, I also need the one-year-only front brake cable adjustor.

And an elusive lower right sargeant's bar.

And a couple of "narrow" rose-pattern strap bands for the saddlebags.

And a stainless finned muffler cover would be delightfull.

Ain't '49's fun?!?

i could use a couple of the dh-49 marker lights , the ones with clear lens , i have a plain top stainless headlight trim but it is in bad shape lots o dents broke ears and so on i took it to a metalsmith , he said it would cost more than it was worth for him to shrink out the dents , also a magnet will stick to what stainless that is one the bike and the headlight tin but it is stainless.

A magnet will stick to 400 series stainless steel.
