Was I snookered on Ebay?

#1

Post by Mike in Mass » Thu Apr 29, 2010 4:01 am

Good evening, all! I'm hoping you all can help me out with some info on an inner primary cover I just bought. I've posted some pics of it in my gallery. It was listed as an original HD cover fitting knucks and pans to '54. The cover on my bike is pretty beat, two of the front holes are broken and lots of chain lash. This one looked great and I thought the light areas in the pics were glare from the flash. Turns out the thing is coated with a thin even layer of filthy black grease, over the chrome plating.
Any chance HD actually supplied chromed covers as an option for these bikes, or have I been had? Just got home from work, I'll be looking in Palmer's book before I hit the rack, but I'd be grateful for any info y'all might be able or willing to provide before I call the seller up and start making accusations.
Many thanks!

Mike,
Without even seeing the pics I can assure you they were NEVER chrome! The Derby and inspection covers on the outer were when the Deluxe package was ordered as part of the chrome group, but not the inner or outer covers themselves. Sorry!
Robbie
PS, before you decide you got hosed make sure that it is an original cover that has been chromed or a junk repro. You can always strip the chrome!

Hey, Robbie
Thanks for the info, that's pretty much what I thought. Great idea to have the chrome stripped, I hadn't thought of that! Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees! Holding it up against my stock cover it sure looks identical other than the plating.
Once again, I appreciate ya taking the time to set me straight.
