is there a list somewhere that tell where 1038 bolts for a 50 pan go

and also where plain bolts go

looking at the parts books and palmers it does not seem to specify what exactly goes where

Moose,
By 1950 the MoCo was buying almost all of the common hardware from Chandler Products, that's what the CP means on the bolt heads marked 1038CP. As a general rule of thumb, ALL the common (ordinary) bolts will be 1038CP. The only ones that will not have a headstamp are the "uncommon" bolts for special purpose applications, things like the shoulder bolts which required a specific length on the shoulder. But guess what?, some of the uncommon stuff was also CP. But for just about everything else you are safe with the 1038CP.

I own a 50 panhead with original bolts.
Some do and some don't.
If you have a question about a specific bolt I can check.
