CV idle mixture screw

While I was trying to diagnose my "off-idle miss" (see previous thread) I got frustrated with the difficulty in adjusting the idle mixture screw. I know that you can buy an extended adjusting screw for about $25 but I made my own for practically nothing.

First chuck the screw in a lathe and drill a small pilot hole.

Then take a piece of brass rod and turn the end to fit the pilot hole (make sure the O.D. of the rod is less than the minor diameter of the threaded portion of the screw.

Solder them together. I also drilled a small cross hole in the end of the extension to serve as a reference when adjusting it and also so that I can safety wire it when I get it where I want it.

When adjusting the idle mixture on my CV I don't seem to get the usual rpm changes when the screw is in too far or out too far, has anyone else noticed this? Mike
