Mikuni Carb & 1952 Panhead

#1

Post by BastardBoy » Wed Jun 10, 2009 12:29 am

OK, I just acquired a 1952 Panhead FL and am in the process of getting her road worthy. It came with a Mikuni carb... only numbers I could find on it where M8 61? My question is: Is this carb worth rebuilding? Its gummed up but other that that it looks good. I don't like the "Made in Japan" stamp on it! If I was to replace it what would a good carb? I want this bike to be reliable, no trouble on the road, so I would just as soon lay out the $$$ now to get a good carb and maximize the riding season.

Any suggesting would be appreciated.

Thanks
BastardBoy

I'm running an S&S and like it, it works well and is very reliable. Is your engine stock?

bb,

you could just clean up what you have and it will probably run fine.

i have had 4 different carbs on my bike and finally settled on having the oem linkert.

my bike has never started easier or ran better.

What he said about the Linkert. The Mikuni will work fine if its clean. The best adaptor is the one that bolts to the linkert manifold and is only about 3\4" deep. The long 2 bolt flange S&S type manifold and a Mikuni WILL cause cold starting headaches in many cases.
