Fuel line packing

#1

Post by 1950Panhead » Sat Dec 18, 2010 12:07 am

I scraped the remains of old fuel line packing out of two brass fittings today and installed graphite rope and compressed it some with my press.
Is graphite rope the standard today?
Has anyone switched to compression fittings?
Is there a source for one piece solid packing?

I used a slice of automotive rubber fuel line.
Also used the fuel line for the seal on the factory tank reserve/shut off.

I have an old package (AMF era) of new OEM fuel line seals. They are no more than exactly that--- a slice of just the right size rubber (or neoprene?) fuel line.

Two or three "O" rings will work in a pinch.
