Never had a key for the steering head lock.
Trying to restore the bike.
How do you remove the lock from frame?

I'm new here today and this fork lock topic you linked to is just what I'm looking for. I just picked up '54 and the previous owner welded up the lock hole. I want to re-do it and this thread talks about pics but they either aren't there or I'm dumber than I think. Is it me? Thanks. Jim

Has anybody considered coming up from bottom of neck support and drilling a hole, then place lock in frame in proper alignment and slightly countersink side of lock, remove lock and tap the hole you drilled up from bottom, place lock back in position after pin and spring are in place, now use an allen set screw to secure lock in place. It leaves a hidden hole and will let you remove lock at a later time if need arises. Could even fill this hole with black silicon (smear over hole to hide) if you do not want it seen.
