1Panfan!

I don't think I understand "square" and "reinforced", or even if we are talking about the same bracket,
but I was led to believe the '49 was a one-year design:

For what that's worth,

if you look closely at the 1949 fender that Cotten posted above you will notice there are NO rivets, the brackets were spot welded to the fender, that is the feature that makes them one-year only equipment. An original 1949 fender in nice shape, like Cotten's picture, is worth plenty as most of them broke and/or tore the fender.

I wish I had a photo, Folks,..
(But my painter has had two sets of my sheetmetal for half o' decade.
He finally found where he missplaced the tanks this week.)

I believe the shape of the stamped bracket is different for riveted years as well.

Thanks everyone.
Done some study of different parts manuals & up to 84 they seem to only list the "square cut" no re-inforced type.
Am I to assume all others are non original.

I need to work more on this challenge but here is what i have so far....
5900-48 front fender as per '49 parts book. This is the spot welded one pictured above. It was short lived and replaced by a riveted one before the model year ended and many were replaced under warranty.
5900-48 (same number) as per '50 parts book. No mention of changes but rivets appeared.
'51 parts book, same
'52 supplement (no book was published) same
'53 no book or supplement as everything was the same as '52.
Now for '54, the brace is listed as a separate part for the first time. This is also the first "improved" brace with a slightly rolled edge to prevent fractures in the fender bolt mountings. All the factory installed '54 fenders have holes for the 50th Anniversary emblem.
No changes for '55-'56. Factory installed '55 fenders have holes for the "V" (victory) emblem.
'57 part number is now 5900-48A. No holes for bottom trim and new holes for the plastic tip.
'58 59000-49A for '57 and earlier and a new 59000-58 for the new Duo-Glide. The -58 is like the '57 but with holes for the new emblems.
'59-'60 supplement. Now here things get cloudy as the 59000-58 is replaced by the 59000-58B ( no A variation seems to have been listed) I'll have to look closer, but perhaps the brake tube hole got the insert instead of a bolt and nut. Also the new drilling for the '59 fender tip.
For '61 the number stays as -58B
Now for the '62-'64 list the number changes to -59C, and is listed as back to '54 with the -48A number no longer listed.
The -59C number goes into the Shovel era.
The next real change in the braces occurred in about late '73 with a tab welded on the left brace to hold the brake line out of contact with the cowbell.
The reinforced heavyweight brackets appeared in the later '70s as a repair part. They were chrome plated and bolted on. After the first year or so they came stock and were riveted. I'll find the "Shop dope" for it.
I'll keep looking but that is it for now!

Robbie,

Great job to say the least!! Your always willing to go the extra mile.
I'm going to look at a 1935 Servi-car in the morning. I have several front fenders, a 49', 53', 60' and others. I'll try and post some photo's and see if we can identify the differences.

Great job!

Robbie,
IIRC, the warranty fender mounts came out in 79, and were for 75? and later fitment. Something to do with engine balance factor causing cracks as I remember.

Thanks Robbie
You certainly done your research on this.
I am right to assume the fender in my picture is from a shovelhead.
Thanks everyone else for there help. 8)
