D FLOORBOARDS

Post by 1951 adam » Fri Dec 28, 2012 2:11 am

I've been trying to locate a set of decent boards, anyone know were I can find a set of originals ? Everything on ebay is WAY out of my budget, and whats not is just really rough. I was thinking of buying some reproducion boards and putting the cloth backed mats on them....any suggestions where I can get the best reproductions from? Thanks in advance, Adam

A guy brought me a set of replica floorboards from Europe. In the packet the green floorboards were turning red ....
These had steel mats. Turns out the steel mats had been riveted to the boards while they were bare steel , then painted.
Bottom of steel mats were rusting away & top of floorboards also rusting away !!! Have to restore replica parts before using them !!!

That is the way they were done originally, for the Army. They are not uncommon. Are you sure they are repros? I took a set of those and removed the steel mats and used rubber ones for my civilian Panhead. There are cloth backed repros being made now. I don't know the difference between the repro boards and originals. They are close. Old Dude has the stuff. At the last AMCA meet I went to there were several vendors selling them, at different prices. Mike

I believe they were originally parkerized before being assembled and painted. I have a set of NOS steel mats that are parkerized.

Ive orderd from them , and my exhuast looks pretty damn good, they have some nice stuff....ill post some pics when they come.

The Army ones were painted after the mats were installed. Mike
