48-52 Buddy seat

#1

Post by 51Hog » Thu Oct 30, 2008 5:11 am

I am recovering a buddy seat with top grain leather and need to see some good pics of the skirt.
Palmers (Page 454) says that the rosettes were orange on that model seat.
I would really like to see what color orange they were. Were there any conchos and studs involved?
Thanks,
Dale

Dale,
If you ever take the bike out of the garage and ride it in the sunlight I'll bet the color of those rosettes changes every time you ride it. It would be hard to say how bright or how orange they were when new. Heather's Leathers and Heilman both have great photos on their web sites, here's a link to one of them, it just shows the seat, if you go to his web site and click on the photo there is a description that goes with it.

We want pictures when your done!

Thanks for the tips Mike--
I will post pics when finished.
The seat will have an early 60's super-soft Buddy and the cover will be reminiscent of the 48-52 cover with skirt.

The rosettes were yellow in 1947 and 48, orange in 1949, and red 1950--53. The skirt was made from panolene plastic and was in 3 pieces. The side pieces had 30 3/8 nickle plated spots along the bottom while the rear piece had 22 spots. There were NO fringes, conchos or other decorations on the skirt----

Well---
Here is my version of the 51/63 combo Supersoft Buddy seat.
Still need to put the stainless spots on, and I may change the stars for a more original looking star with the orange rosette. Then again, I like the stars that are on there now.
There is a wrinkle mark in the surface of the leather that I hope will eventually go away. All other blemishes are dust.
The white seat is what I started with.

beautiful job Dale!, I wouldn't change the stars either.

I left the buddy seat on my pan all summer this year, I usually only put it on when the wife is going to ride with me, but I think I like it better than the solo when I'm riding alone now. My old butt isn't as tolerant as it used to be.

Thanks Mike.
I am happy with the way it came out.
I really like the room and padding on the buddy---
I rode my son's bike (Kawasaki 650) dirt/street and it rode like a marshmellow--Great suspension---
Seat was like a rock, and after about 1 hour, I was looking for the buddy seat-- LOL
