my floorboard mount on my primary broke the other night. can anyone tell me if 65-84 are the same. my bike is a 65 with the electric start currently working. i lost the part that broke off and the cover has been fixed several times before. i am wondering if the 65 is different from the rest. can't really find any in the parts books for 65. thanks.

'65's were unique in that they had an inspection plug through which the front compensator sprocket could be greased.
Otherwise they were the same as '66 to '69.
Later covers will fit, but they are ugly.

can't find a 65-69 resonably priced. that's why i'm trying to find out what others, if any, will work with the electric start. thanks for the replies.

PanPal!
You have a proper tin cover, I assume.
'65's (and later) were a re-invention of the Indian chain housing: cast aluminiumnum.

You need a cover with:
(A) The same number of screws, in the same places of course. (A gasket is your best measure.)
(B) A pristine machined hole for the startershaft needle bearing. (Expect to replace anything already in any used cover.)
(C) The obvious footboard tab.
(D) Legit OEM markings, as the oriental repops are junk.
(E) Zero chrome, as that's why most of them are for sale.

Put on your best magnifying reading glasses on to inspect anything and everything before you pay for it.
Better yet, have your preferred independent dealer order his best offering, so he can send it back when it sucks.
