5 gal. tanks

#1

Post by Hauula Pan » Wed Jun 24, 2009 10:12 pm

I'm hoping someone can tell me what year or years these tanks were made? They are the only set of 5 gal. tanks I've seen with the old style fuel shut off. They have the cross over vent nipples up top and as far as I know the original emblems. I was once told that they are from mid or late 60's and were made only for 1 or 2 years. ???????????

1965, maybe 66 I think were the only years for those tanks. If the emblems are correct then I'd have to say 66, because the previous emblems ran from 63-65, and that,s not them. Could be the later emblems stuck on 65 tanks I guess, cause the screw holes will line up for either emblems.

Dear Hauula,

Those are '65 only, and very very very good to have in your trade stash!

Thanks, 65 seems right, I think it was the last year for the old style s/o/v. Probably has 66 emblems though. I didn't know the 63-65 used the same mount, good to know. I'll have to dig up some 65 emblems. The tanks are in very good condition, though the emblems are junk, way too many years of humid, salt air!!!! Ran them on my 52 Pan for several years and now have original 3.5gal. on it. Plan to use these on a little bar hopper shovel.
