The cable bracket at the carb end gets attached using the same bolt that attached the top motor mount to the frame.

What's a "tall tower"?

mark,

this is what i did to my '55 viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1953&p=8086

you can also use a cable clamp like the WLA had on the handlebars on the lower backbone tube. as a matter of fact the '49 to '54 pans were done this way.

If you don't want to weld a tab on your '48 frame you can use the bracket and clamp that Andy mentioned. The bracket is part #56605-49, its sort of "L" shaped with an offset and mounts forward of the motor mount tab using the same bolt that holds the upper motor mount. The control cable coil is held to the bracket with part #56608-49 which has a locating tang on the bottom which fits into the lower hole in the bracket. The upper hole for the clamp is tapped for the machine screw which holds it in place. I tried to take a couple of pictures but it was difficult to get a clear shot without removing the backing plate for the air cleaner.

hope this helps
