#1

Post by Billpan58 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:56 am

Im a big guy, over the weekend one of daughters and i rode to wauseon,oh.National meet on my 58 pan w/buddy seat [very cramped], i got thinking about taking an old buddy seat and trying to enlarge seat pan to create more room. prob. would entail lots of work, but maybe could improve situation. She wants me to take her on a western trip.I' ve got the metal skills..retired welder, any one ever enlarge one?had double mustang on,didn't like, hard on back going over bumps.

What about adding the luggage rack over the rear fender and then putting the square pad that locks onto it for the passenger. Save you a bit of time and money and give you both more breathing room. How I did it with my 65 pan when the wifey decided she needed more space...

I have one of teh pads fro my luggage rack on my '52(rigid frame) I finally gotto use it a few months ago when my friend Amanda went on a 100-mile bike run with me. She said it was comfy.

Not sure how it would be for extended touring on a rigid-but on a swing-arm frame, you would be good, I think.

Bill ya might want to reinforce the pan it's self if you're going to extend it. It's a lever and the further you go back the more spring you need for your buck. Dave Croft makes heavy duty spring sets. I'm running them on three of my bikes. He's a good man with a quality product. 440-458-8813. Bob L
