Ok first dumb question have tryed two diff oil tanks on my 53 pan FL the one thats on it now is a replica Bob style the problem i have had with both is getting the inner prim to line up with oil tank bracket . Another question and its killing me i have looked high and low for a pic of the lower inner prim attachment point on the frame theres a hole there i assume iam missing a bracket of sorts. Trying to get the bike mocked up but need the primary inner secure so i can get the clutch on any help would be greatful.

fred

do you have the battery tray and the spacers that go under it installed?

might be part of the problem.

For mock-up purposes, if you bolt the engine down to the frame, rear 1st, then the front using spacers in the front as needed, you will be able to bolt the inner to the engine. This being done, yer rear inner primary mounts (top and bottom), will fall into place. This tells ya where yer oil tank support tab and frame tab will need to be located....bosheff

Thanks fellows iam Grateful Highbuck, yup missing tab for lower rear inner prim ill have to weld on a tab. The oil tank has the front spacer kit from Coloney installed waiting for the lower battery cover and O Tank plate and rear mount for OTank to fender but for mock up even with spacers its a country mile off.

Has for shimming the engine mounts i need to go down not up so not sure that would work. Gonna resize some pics so you guys can see.

Pics kinda Dark this bike iam doing has a old school retro , has Arlen Ness forwards FYI WAY over priced for what you get Alren i assume is a rich man selling stuff , i have to make brackets and plate so i can use old holes for the forwards allowing them to run lower and out, iam 6'2 and the way they look now a midget could ride it but not me. lol.

K, not an expert by any means but after looking at the pic you referred to in you the post above, I am wondering if there is something off with the mounting tab on your oil bag

Couple shots of mine w/ inner primary. Not the best...but maybe a starting point for some more discussion.

Thanks for the pic and i agree the tab is not welded correctly on this last oil bag but like the Gas tanks i spent two days making fit and align i think the key word is Tiawan , they may have our Jigs but they need to recheck them since nothing from VTwin seems to ever fitt right. Pacho "SP" american made but time frames to get anything from them is weeks out.

My plan is to use the tab off the other oil tank that didnt fit right and make a slider bracket trying not to loose the chrome from spot welding or wire welding. Just cant afford to keep buying oil tanks hoping they fitt.

You guys know both the upper to the oil tank and the lower mount to the frame should have a bolt with a spring, washer, nut and a cotter pin securing the primary. If you simply bolt it together, you will end up with cracks in your inner primary.

Your new chrome inner cover looks like a repop also, is it? I know that bracket on the inner primary is usually in the wrong place, if it came from V-Twin. And probably the lower bracket as well....
The replacement tab for the frame can be found at Race Frame Engineering, but if you're like most of us, you'll probably just fab one up. And then you have to ask yourself the question--- do you weld it on the frame so it fits the aftermarket inner cover, or do you locate it per dimension off an unmolested frame...?

Fred...forgot who but I have seen just the lower tank tab for sale. Seems you could then cut the tab off and re-weld the correct one in place since you have it pieced together.

Agree also that Taiwan Tedd $hit does not fit right which is why a guy named Plumber has a 10 page thread on the CAIM forum "perfecting" a 57 pan using Tedds stuff
