1961 oiltank different than 1959.

I'm building my 1959 pan from mostly 1961 parts ,I notice the seat tbar is different on one .The 61 doesnt alow room for the grease fitting on the underside of it ,it hits the frame ,but the 59 has a much more of a bend in it and has room for the zerk.
Next my 2 oil tanks are different ,the 61 tank has 2 slotted holes at the top .there on the inside of the horseshoe opening ,and look like a bracket may bolt to the tank and fender.. In antiquecycles 1959-1968 parts book it shows this clearly ,but not in their catalog. I'm wondering if this was in case the tank went on a police bike or something else that would have a use for these holes .. Neil
now for my next post regarding spacers ...

The two sloted holes on the rear of the tank is for the battery hold down studs mounting flags. All seat tees are for the most part identical. I would like to see a pick of the 61 one. Bob L

neilw,
The slotted holes are for ALL swingarm framed bikes from'58-'64. The style without the slots are for rigids.

But completely interchangeable, are they not, Robbie? (Correctness aside, of course....)

Sure, as long as you aren't planning on putting battery hold down bolts in it!
That is why they differ, rigid battery bolt flags mount to the fender, swingarm battery hold down bolts mount to the oil tank.
