Tool Box bracket for a 50 Pan

#1

Post by 66 Shovel-Pan » Tue Feb 21, 2012 2:51 am

Two days ago I bought a 50 or 51 wishbone frame and I'm putting on all my extra pieces and sheet-metal that I've been scrounging up, a 50 FL engine, and an as yet unknown year tranny. I want to build the bracket that goes between the tool box and the frame bracket. I know what it looks like but I lack an actual piece to get the information I need to build it. I need to know the guage and width of the strap, the offset, and the center to center distance between either tool box hole and the nearest frame bracket mount hole. I know my bike will be a bitsa but it will be a ridden and loved bitsa. Thanks in advance.

What makes you say that? Would it be the incorrect rear tank mounts or the lack of horn brackets?

that frame looks like the one from uxbridge ma. i called after it was bought, and asked him about the top motor mount witch dos'nt go with a 50 or 51 frame and , or that if it had a date code on the top motor mount, he was a really nice guy talked to him for a while, , he said the frame had some repairs in abington, ( maybe south shore ), that the lower front tank mount and top tank mount had been replaced, and a few other things, i called when the add came out and did'nt get him, so i dont think you see a vertical frame strap, with that style top motor mount--he did'nt know about the cdate code----i was gonna buy that frame but i guess you got iot , lucky dog---------------tony s

You Sir, are correct. Al is a great guy, really interesting to talk to. Turns out we have and had a few mutual aquaintances.I had a hard time leaving there after I bought the frame. Funny thing is, if a wanna-be up my way had been good to his word you would have gotten it instead of me. It's as he decribed it, a nice bobber frame as is or really not too far off the mark to restore. For the time being I have to correct the tank mounts, but I'll leave the other work until I or the next owner decides to restore it. I have most of the sheet metal for a 54 hand shift and a 75 single disc front end so that's it's current direction.

if your not going to restore it, why bother changing the mounts , there gonna fit, and that newer to motor mount is prolly stronger than the earlier style-------------i need a frame for my 50 fl---i just welded on floor board tabs and fashioned and inatalled, a backbone brace, for it , but its tuff been thru alot, i belive its rusting from the inside, and its had tuff life-- so if you hear of any frames around ( not to messed up ) let me know-------tony s.

I'm just going to do the rear tank mounts and the rear of the dash. They had been replaced badly. The tanks won't bolt up. I'll also clean up some of the non-factory welds. I couldn't really afford to buy this one, but I couldn't afford not to. I made up a jig years ago to properly set all the mounts. Too bad I can't find it...

Bracket is 13.5" long, 2" wide, .102" thick, photo attached, wasco frame sells them.
Did you mine the ore for the bracket?

Jerry, I have the bracket that is welded to the frame. I want to build the bracket that bolts to it, as it shows in your picture. Yes, I could buy it but where is the challange in that. I have three nyphets in a hole digging ore right now.

Fixed the rear tank and the dash mount. While I was there I welded up the 5/8" hole for the oil filter bracket.
