Tin inner primary spacers

#1

Post by Northman » Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:47 am

Hey does anyone know anything about the little spacer washers behind the tin (inner) primary that mount between the engine case and the primary?? Are they needed? what thickness are they? I never knew they existed, I thought the primary mounted up flat against the case? Did I miss something here?

Thanks

#50) 60655-55 SPACER, spring clip. 55-64. Gives the spring clip something to ride against in the bolt hole.
Parts books are invaluable!

The spacers allow the inner primary to "float" a bit. The spring washers hold tension on it, the locks keep the bolts from backing out. It was done to try and stop the fracturing issues with the earlier style covers. If you have the correct oil tank, frame , and engine attaching hardware you will never experience a broken primary. Also not the holes are elongated to also add clearance. Bolt it up tight and take your chances!

Okay, makes sense now. I have a parts book, thats how I found out I was missing something....like the little spaces/washers. Now I gota figure out where to get them or buy the whole kit just for them.. If someone has size of those I could make some. Thanks for the help!!
