Rear exhaust pops

#1

Post by Tom1969 » Mon Aug 30, 2010 6:12 pm

My rear exhaust pops like the rear cylinder is its out of sync. Could this be a valve adjustment thats needed?

My engine has solid lifters instead of hydrolic ones. They were in the motor when i bought it.

Its a 1960Fl, runs like top though.

Thanks,

Tom

There are a few things to check:

1. Intake manifold leaks. Go to the knowledge base, carburetor and fuel system, and look for this topic. The member MBSKEAM has a great kit for this test.

2. Tuning of the low speed jet on the Carb. If you don't already have the service manual, check the knowledge base.

i have found pops and backfires through the pipe are usually air leaks in the exhaust. -or- the bike is running lean from a carb condition or from a intake manifold leak

try putting the exhaust together with as tight fitting joints as possible and slather up the connections with high temp sillycone.
