When I converted to 12 volts on my 50 panhead, I left the 6 volt horn in place. I use the horn is to verify that I have juice in my battery. My granddaughters like to push the button every now and then as well. Occasional "beeps" don't seem to hurt it.

As far as I'm aware,it's always been standard practice to leave the standard horn, even when converting cars to 12 volts.Generator, battery, coil, bulbs, and indicator relay. That's it.
A lot of early Fords had vacuum wipers over here,if they were electric, you fitted a balast resistor to drop the supply to 6 volts.

I've seen a couple 12v horn that'll do like the springer horn but it's the mounting bracket I'm most concerned about. Will a springer bracket fir on my wishbone frame ?

Wishbone frames used springer horns as a stock part when they were built by H-D. Can't go too much further on that one!!
