Spotlight wiring diagram

#1

Post by Panacea » Mon Sep 15, 2014 5:41 am

Does anyone have a spotlight wiring diagram? I'd like to see one, I'm trying to figure out why my headlight terminals only have 3.4Volts. There is another terminal that has a wire that's hot all the time with 6.6V, so i have to trace it down. With the dimmer switch, spotlight switch, ignition switch, turn signal switch, there's a few places to check line and load readings...Mike

Hey Perry, looking at this schematic, it looks to me like the head lamp is off when the spotlamps are on. or am I missing something. Power from stud 9 is moved from the headlamp to the spotlamp switch, turning the spot lamps on in one posion, headlamp on in the other position. Possibly the only way a 32E generator could handle the extra load?...Joe

Joe,
The diagram that Perry posted is the '49 accessory diagram that came with the spotlights and you are correct, you could run either the spotlights or the headlight but not both. Here is the factory wiring diagram from 1947, same thing, spots or headlamp, but not both at the same time

Do you mean the terminal #39 located at the top left corner of the terminal board under the seat post mounted ignition coil. Hope I understand your question but that is the way I read it. It is the terminal for the battery positive and from there on to the power up the igniton/light switch, The conduit containing all the wire pass under the seat tee. So what picture do you actually need? ..Have I lost it er wut??.....Joe

Joe,
It would be the location of the actual seat T terminal for seat mounted lights.

Adam, well you got me on that one. However, there cannot be two terminal 39 on a panhead. Terminal 39 as mentioned is on the terminal board behind the coil for battery power. Are you sure it is #39? I will try to find info on it for you tho or someone else might chime in here...Joe.

Joe i believe the seat tee itself is drilled for that terminal , I've just never seen it before, wondering where , or if it just depends on who installed it.

Adam, I cant find any info as my signal light diagram is late 58 and on which calls for the wireing for the lamps to pass thru the rear fender and on to lamps mounted on a light bar over the licence plate or such at the rear fender itself, but not on the saddle. Are your saddle mounted lamps for signal lights or are they just used for marker lights?. If signal lights, they might require two connector studs for right and left turn, however, the DH49 lamps have a socket connector for inline wireing, and no terminal studs were used in the fifties panheads as far as I have seen. Part # 70575-50 inline push on connector is used instead of a terminal stud like you are asking for?? ......Joe

Thanks Joe,
Running light set ups should have an insulated terminal drilled into the tee, I just don't know where , and I've never seen one. I would imagine it would be as a pre terminal board , with insulators . Where on tee and parts used I don't know.

I meant to ask the year of the bike in question. Is it a knuck, panhead, other? Maybe someone has the instructions if we knew the year and model. Accesories came with instructions usually, which may have the answer for you...Joe
