RE: 57 Pan: Straight Bar Frame. Where can I find a diagram of the wiring harness routing and various attachment points? Also, what are the alternatives to zip ties? Are repop clips available?

scrap

palmer's book has some good photos of wire routing.

all of the clips are available, your bike should use 4 if i remember correctly. one next to the battery, one on the seat post tube, one on the steering neck and one on the left front down tube. the old dude has them in park or cad.

also, the harness under the gas tanks was attached with good old fashioned friction tape!

Thanks John, this is what I did on my 48 FL Panhead. Got a new roll of 3M Friction tape, worked great in many areas. Had all the clips from a 80+ year old Bike shop in Kansas City MO. WAYNE'S MOTORCYCLE CO. I did my bike unrestored. Katto

John, the only pics I see in my Palmer manuel is a Knuk and 45. Are there other pics some where in the book? Bob

I've got some excellent photos of an original unmolested '56 FL that were taken specifically to show factory original routing of the wiring. I have asked the owner of the pics, who graciously gave copies to me, for permission to post here. Once I get his approval, I'll be glad to pass them along. I believe they will be identical to a '57.
Zip-ties were not used. Good old friction tape was used in a couple locations, along with the clips.

big,

by all means please post them if you get permission!

bob,

you are correct. most of the photos in palmers are of a 47 and a couple of a 40 UA model. pages 34, 61, and 427 show harnesses. the clips are shown on pages 430, 431 and 432. the shots of the knuck show general position on the frame back bone, and how the wires relate to the seat T. most of the specific model shots in the back of the book are clear enough to see the clip on the front left down tube for the generator and relay wires.

here are a couple of an unrestored '55 that may be close to a '57.

I'm sure it will be fine, but I think it's just plain old common courtesy to ask first. I've had my share of photos snagged and passed along without so much as a thank-you, or even a f#ck you, for that matter. Might be tomorrow before I hear back from the owner....

Big tipped me off that some of my pictures were needed.

Here are a few shots of my 56 FLH survivor. Friction tape attachment points are the original tape in the original locations.

A stray non standard taped up wire can be seen here. All other is factory routing.

The orange wire pair with the black dots are non standard.

Bob, yes, the second photo shows it fairly well.

If anyone would like me to email the pictures so you can zoom in on details, drop me a PM with your email address and I will send them out.
