generator light blows

#1

Post by panhdz » Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:12 am

Hi,
I have a stock 1964 pan, model 61 6v generator. I replaced brushes, armature and field coils. When I start the bike the gen light will burn super bright and blow. I'm not very good with electrics, any ideas?

Does it blow the oil light? Possibly a bad voltage regulator or charging circuit incorrectly wired....bosheff

the oil light does not blow. bike was fine before i took it off, had a buddy recheck my generator rebuild-looked ok, generator "growled" before installation, polarized after install. light worked fine before my generator was just barely charging so I thought I would tune it up. thanks

Make sure all your grounds are clean and tight....When running, what is the voltage output? You said it's 6v, but 12v will do what you are stating to a 6v bulb and a 12v bulb will be dim to 6v.......

If it worked before you messed with it, it has to be the generator, wiring, install or all of the above.. Probably the wiring..
