Hi to you all.
My English is not so good but i hope you will try to help anyway.
The problem is: I can not identyfi my gear box,by year.
Are there any way to do that?
The number written on it says: 121-41.
The papers says that it is a `38 but the motor vin. is 40wld2945.
I would be happy for some help about this issue.

Well I thought they changed the tranny number in 1941 because they changed a lot about it.sounds like thats what that is.your vin numbers read that its a 1940.and tour title reads 1938???Are these vin numbers anywhere on title?

They changed a whole bunch of stuff in '41, the gearbox, and the clutch being very major changes.
The most obvious difference is the case mount to the frame, from 1941 until the end it was a 3 bolt mount. The change to 3-bolt mounting also caused a change in the frame, they added a 3rd rail to the forging under the transmission. All the dry sump engines will bolt to either frame but the transmissions are a different story.
Most likely you have a 1940 engine bolted to a WLA 3-bolt frame with a 1941 or newer transmission. The only change in the tranny after '41 came in 1947 when they switched shifter drums so that 3rd gear was all the way forward instead of all the way back.
