ratchet top on '50 tranny

I'm considering converting my '50 EL to a foot shift set-up. Will the standard Harley ratchet tranny top bolt onto this year tranny? I've seen tops advertized as being for '52 on up. Is there anything to this?

I think 51 was the last year for handshift on the pan, that's probably why the ratchet top is advertised as 52 up. Mike

The ratchet lid will fit your trans just fine. As was mentioned, the usage is noted as 52 and later because of factory fitment on 52 and later.

nope, my 56 FLH is a hand shift, and the Field book, I believe, notes it was an option until the early 70s.
