Is the nut that holds the tranny sprocket on regular thread or reverse? Talking about the old four speed trans.

They are left hand thread. at least all the ones I have ever done. That is right to loosen left to tighten. I have no idea why, since they spin left they should be right hand like the engine sprocket. Maybe someone knows?
