Description: All of a sudden my 59 Pan kick start does not engage

Post by mdlarner on May 19, 2004, 4:41pm

All of a sudden my 59 Pan kick start does not engage. It tries to grab occasionally but never enough for a full stroke. I pulled the cover and the gears "look" fine. Could the throw out bearing cause this problem?

Thanks
Mike

Mike:

Your best bet is to look at everything, as this is obviously a real potentially hazardous situation, and you are going to have it opened up anyway. If you find something, whether it be the throwout bearing or a bushing, or whatever, Cotten's advice is most sound:

"The design is very forgiving, unless we decide to fix it. Then everything must be brought back to spec, as any loose end disagrees with the rest. "

Best o' luck!

Thanks for the advice. Over the winter I installed a new battery box and the long bolt thru the hold down loosened and dropped preventing the clutch from disengageing all the way.
So I got a lesson in Kickers anyway and I'm On The Road Again! Gotta love it

GREAT site and thanks again

Mike
