Counter shaft shifter fork and your good to go. Don't forget to take out the idler gear and pin in the bottom of the case. I sold that whole reverse gear set up at Jefferson this fall for $450 clams. Seems that a lot of folks want to see the world from a differant direction. Just like the assholes in Washington DC. Bob L

If memory serves me correctly you gotta replace the countershaft cluster (3rd and 4th) also. 4 speed C.S. cluster has 17 teeth, while 3 speed or 3&R C.S. cluster has 19 teeth....bosheff

The complete CS cluster gear is also different, fewer teeth, and also the matching MS gear. The 3&R 2nd gear on the CS has 19 teeth, the 4 speed cluster 3rd gear has 17.
Shifter drum or complete top too!

Bob,
Have you done this?
Big or little difference in 3+R top two gears?

Jerry I blew this one. I forgot about third gear and the boys are spot on. Any way you look at it. Your going for one hell of a chunk of change to do this but if you have the whole reverse set up at least you'll be able to recoup some of your investment. If your going to rip that box apart, you might as well rebuilt it right. Tractor verses sports car thing. Bob L

Jerry,
I built a gearbox like that years ago for a stroker I was playing with. I used a tall first gear and cluster from an FX, and the CS cluster and 2nd gear from a 3&R. What you end up with is a third gear very close to second and a big step to high (just like a 3&R). It was fun but not very practical. The big inch engine pulled it all but with a stocker it would stink! The major problem with a 3&R is the big step, they need an extra gear in there.
So I wouldn't recommend it!
