Plexiglass is a very scary thing. When it breaks, it breaks like glass. You do not want to hit your plexi windshield.
I use a product called Tuffak.
We use the same product for landing light covers and windows in small planes.
Not only does it resist scratches better than plexi, but it can be cut with tin snips or jig saw with out cracking.
It does not break, but will fold if you hit it.
I use vinyl tubing split with a knife for my bead. No glue. Just slide it over the edge of the plastic.

You could also use Hyzoid (sp) or Lexan$$. They are polycarbonate sheets. All these suggestions are better choices for this job. As for the beading, you may find something extruded at a plastic dealer or online. It should be a similar material because all of these materials will bend without shattering.
