original finish on Linkert carbs?

Post by awander »

I was just looking at my Linkert M74, freshly cleaned a few months ago after varnishing up for about 8 years. I was admiring the brass body, and the aluminum bowl.

Then I looked at a post by Cotten, and his profile picture is a black carb, looks like a Linkert.

Made me wonder what the original finish was-did they paint them, leave them in the natural metal finsh, or...?

AMCA judges want to see a black body casting, and all external hardware cadmium plated (or at least appear so.)

Pre-War bodies were dull nickel, '40 and '41 bodies were "silver", '42-'43 and later military issues were Olive Drab.
Generally, that is.

Honestly, I think the choke cam was nickel up to the very end.

NOS examples of hardware fresh out of cosmoline can show the entire spectrum of completeness of cad plating, so we are really trying to pin down a mythical ideal.
