Pan exhaust and tie rod clearance

#1

Post by WirePan » Sat Apr 10, 2004 2:46 pm

Hey All!
I noticed when I removed the front exhaust pipe (rusted out) that it didn't clear the tie rod that connects the down tubes together. This tie rod is a main connection for the sidecar frame. My question is: Is it common to "squish" the front exhaust pipe to clear the tie rod or is something else out of wack? Also is the Tie Rod nessesary if I'm going to ride solo at first?
Thanks!!!

...well I alwas pop the generator out to make some more room there. Only 2 screws, so it seemed to be fast and simple enough. It's still a bit tricky though...
Don't know if this is proper standard procedure - be glad to get info!

Thanks Dereborn!
I guess I must have had a repop on there that didn't have the right curve or something because it was squished a bit to clear theh tie rod (it wouldn't have fit otherwise).

The sidecar manual mentions making a clearance in the pipe for the tie rod,... with a hammer!

Thanks Cotten!

I guess I'm not too surprised.
Speaking of "Sidecar Manual" - where would I get one of those???

Is that the "panhead special universal tool #1" or what!
