"Pan Head" Rear Exhaust Cross over pipe for duels !

#1

Post by Motorcyclemike » Wed Aug 03, 2011 6:20 pm

Before i pull the 2 in to one....Exhaust off my Pan.....i want to know IF the cross over pipes were different for a 58 and later frame.... as it needs to be able to clear the rear brake line on the left side where it go's from the frame to the swinging arm !.....And i would rather find out here before i find out after i pull the rear pipe and t pipe and muffler off the right side !
Thanks In Advance.

Mike!

Got a Parts Book?

6540-54 is listed for '54 to '57,
and
65440-58 is listed for '58 to '61.

I guess Duo owners from '62 to '64 will make the AMCA judges point their stink fingers if they install one, or found one righteously in situ.

Those who have a '65 or later will desire a Paughco replacement.

Mc/Mike,

I have true duals on my "60" FLH. Bought from an old man who had owned the bike for 40 years. Also have 3 extra true duals rear pipes. Don't see any differance in any of them. But, could have 3 rear swing arm pipes? I could send a photo?

I believe the difference is not in width, but in angle of the tail section of the pipe. When the swingarm frame was introduced the "Y" pipe became straight and not kinked upward. The rear dual would have that corresponding angle in it to line up with the new muffler supports. If your muffler points to far upward you have a rigid frame pipe! With the introduction of the split duals in '61 they changed completely.

I have the rear pipe off of my 50 pan which was put on around 1955 and made it duals. I could take pictures if you like also (actually my kid can this weekend) if you need that also. I'm trying to switch mine from the duals to single and looking for the rear pipe and y pipe for a 1950 pan oem

*Many Thanks Tony,
I think that i will cut the part where its straight over the clutch area and weld a straight section in then weld the part back on that was cut off so it will fully clear the brake connection and hose too......then slip a piece of "flex pipe" over the section where i welded it to gether....a sortah "frankenstein" cross over LOL.......plus i have to convert the "Panhead" fitting to the head to the "shovel head" flange as i have STD Panheads with shov exhaust outlets !
with shovel type exhaust fittings !
My late Dad always said if you had a hacksaw and a welder That you could make any thing fit....and i'll add a LARGE HAMMER ! LOL

Thanks forrrrrrrrrrrr the Great Pictures......"Tony".
