Ignition parts

#1

Post by Blue SOG » Mon Nov 11, 2013 2:06 pm

Hey eveyone,

I haven't messed with a points type ignition is 20 years... I have a '58 pan that i'm working on getting back on the road. Where do you guys get ignitions parts from (points/condensers, etc) and is there a preferred brand? or brands I should stay away from?

Thanks for any and all help,

I've always used HD points and plugs, not sure if the points are still available . I bought a bunch of tune up kits for 3.00 each a few years ago from a dealer, so I'm set for life. I've never had any issues with them. Do a parts search at a dealer, might be some collecting dust somewhere . Good luck,
Adam

Thanks, I'll check. Also, this bike was converted to 12v if that helps.

There are a few diff. points & cond. sets to choose from!--I run a 58flh,& have run the ECHLINS from NAPA AUTO PARTS!--order points for a 1969 or back 6-cyl. chevy!---They are more rigid in design & the contact area is larger then HD offers & All conections are bolt-up!,not that slip-on flag connector!--You don't have to worry about point-bounce when your WFO!-The pull is 23oz.-vs. the 19-oz. of pull on the others .ALSO another good point-set is BLUE-STREAK!--There built the same as the ECHLINS & OFFER LONG-TIME PUNISHMENT!,The accels are cheap & you put them together!-So if concerned with bounce--Its going to differ from person to person. Before buying a set JUST COMPARE THEM ALL,& you will see whats-up with the GOOD ones!--The arms are more rigid as they have a sxtra bend & are of heavier material!---Check for YOURSELF & Make your own decision!---Respecfully---RICHIE
