fork leak

#1

Post by xnoahx » Wed Aug 06, 2008 9:07 am

So I recently put some oil back in my forks after the old stuff all leaked out some time ago only to find my left fork leaks oil, just like the rest of the bike. It looks like it is leaking from the bottom, I presume from where the damper stud comes through the leg and the bolt that holds it in place. I took it apart to try to see what might be the culprit and I noticed that there is no washer to speak of on the nut down there. Ive looked at as many exploded views of the fork assembly that I can find and I do not see something specific listed for the bottom nut so is it something that goes in on/in the damper assembly. Any help with part numbers or where to order what I need would be appreciated. I really would like this bike to leak a bit less.

Thanks for the link, seems like this phrase might be worth investigating:
Make sure the flat shoulders of the end of the damper stud completely register in the square of the (knurled) damper washer. And, that the leading edge of damper shoulders stay recessed below the top surface of the knurled washer or the sliders will leak. I added four (large) paper damper bushing washers to keep the shoulders recessed. Worked. No leaks.

Also, maybe what I need would be one of the parts here, maybe 55, 57, or 58. Anyone know where I can find the part numbers or aftermarket equivalent?
