I have a 1955 6 hole rear head casting number 16706 date code 5-4 that is not listed in Palmers book. Has anyone seen this? Palmer lists the correct numbers as 16704 and 16705.

Hi 19pan55,

I also have a '55 pan with the original heads. I'm sure your rear head numbers are correct. There are some mistakes in Palmer's book and this might be one also.

On my computer I have several examples such as the one below and the casting number on them is 16706-55, not 16705-55 as Palmer states. But on page 205 of Classic Harley Big Twins, Greg Field gives the same rear casting number as Palmer, although Field omits the hyphen: 16705 55.

In Palmer's book this apparent error is on page 183 but there is no mention regarding that page in Perry Ruiter's list of factual errors which pertains to Palmer's book. Can anybody clarify the situation? Eric
